instinct and reason worked on a project in 2015 that uses a marketing experiment to predict demand for international flights out of Canberra.  We tested different ‘hubs’, number of flights per week, time of day, parking costs and ticket costs relative to Sydney and Melbourne ticket costs and most importantly, brand of airline.

With almost 1 million people living in the Canberra Airport catchment, the study estimated the likely use of Canberra airport for international travel by key airline brand and offered a persuasive argument to airlines to consider operating from Canberra.

It was officially announced on 20th January 2016 that Canberrans will now be able to fly directly to Singapore and Wellington from September, as Singapore Airlines begins international services four times each week.
