Australians are ready to embrace genomics in healthcare.

Australians are ready to embrace genomics in healthcare.

Our recent Genomics Knowledge and Attitudes research found that 72% of Australians support the use of genomics in everyday medical care, with many recognising its potential to improve diagnosis, understand personal health risks and help identify treatments best suited to individual needs.

Australians believe fair access is important, wanting the benefits of genomic testing to be available across communities and income groups.

While awareness and understanding are still developing, the research establishes an important national baseline and highlights the opportunity to build public knowledge and confidence as genomics becomes a greater part of healthcare.

We’re pleased to see Genomics Australia share these insights more widely. It’s been a wonderful collaborative effort, and our thanks to the team for the opportunity to contribute research that will help inform future public education, engagement and policy development.
